The Pre-Academy

In the Pre-Academy, Young Artists from K-5th grade are grouped by age into classes for 5-6 year olds, 7-8 year olds, and 9-11 year olds, where they develop foundational theatre skills through story drama. This approach provides a starting point for Young Artists to enter conversations about identity and community, allowing them to share their own thoughts and feelings about their lived experiences. Each Saturday, they devise an ensemble-based theatre piece that celebrates their unique identities and communities. Students may enroll for either the fall or spring semester.

The Pre-Academy is scholarship based, so families are not responsible for payment.

Classes are filled on a first come first served basis. Each semester, 12 Young Artists are accepted into each class. Any Young Artists not accepted into a class are put on a waitlist and prioritized for enrollment for the upcoming semester.

Each class is led by a Teaching Artist with a background in Educational or Applied Theatre. Additionally, all classes include a Supporting Artist who assists with communication with families and classroom management.
