The day culminates with a special 5:00 PM concert by Jazz Power Initiative, celebrating the opening of a new civic and cultural home for Washington Heights, Inwood, and all of New York City.

The People's Theatre opens its doors with a season rooted in the neighborhood that built us and the communities that continue to shape our future.
What began in classrooms, borrowed rehearsal studios, and community spaces—including long-time homes at the Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center and the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance Studios—has grown into New York City's newest home for immigrant-centered theatre. Today, we welcome audiences into a permanent cultural home created with and for our community.
Our inaugural season brings together bold new work, acclaimed international productions, community celebrations, artist gatherings, and educational programs that reflect the many stories of Upper Manhattan and beyond. Whether you're joining us for a world premiere, a family event, a conversation with artists, or your very first visit, we hope you'll find a place here.
This theater was designed by immigrant-owned architecture firm WORKac, built by Shawmut Design and Construction with more than 60% local MWBE and immigrant-owned contractors, and shaped alongside theater consultants Charcoalblue. The project was guided by Envoie Projects, whose leadership helped bring this long-held vision to life.
More than a building, this is La Casa de Todos—a place where artists, neighbors, students, and audiences come together to experience stories that inspire connection, belonging, and possibility.
